ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Having completed medical school in 1988, I started training as a radiation oncologist in 1989.  I have been a cancer specialist for over 22 years and continue to see patients as my full-time job at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre.  However, I am also a teacher, educator and researcher interested in improving how we deal and communicate with patients and their families. I believe that patients need to be treated on an individual basis, with dignity, respect and kindness as well as humour (where indicated). And I strive to do this each and every day!
